Description
Vintage
2020 is characterized by its precocity. The fall 2019 precipitation was significant and allowed the soil to be regenerated with water. Winter and spring were the warmest in the past 120 years. As of June 30, the bunches were closed on the majority of the plots. The very dry month of July followed by a month of August with very little watering made it possible to obtain grapes of good maturity, with overall wines less alcoholic than 2019.
Blending
51% Grenache noir, 34% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah.
Soils
The black Grenache has been planted at the place called « le Jas », on lacustrine marls and banks of fluvial gravel from the Miocène. Shiraz and Mourvedre are harvested on the quaternary pebbly terrasses of Plan de Dieu and Crapon.
Harvest
The Grenache grapes were harvested on September 21st, the Shiraz, more precaucious on the 5th while the Mourvedre, always late has been placed in vats on the 29th of September.
Winemaking process
The grapes were mechanically sorted using a destemmer. They were then crushen and conveyed into a concrete rectangular vat. The temperature was kept around 26°C all through the alcoholic fermentation. The maceration duration was about 30 days during wich time some pumping-over and « delestages » with micro-oxygenetion were performed daily.
Aging
Vinified separately the several soils were assemblend on November the 6th, 2020.
Grenache and Syrah are aged for 18 months in used demi-muids, Mourvèdre in new barrels of 500l.
Wine tasting
A deep color announces an explosion of blackberries from our walls with notes of kirsch, prunes and pepper. The palate, a real treat with strawberry jam, is ample and generous with well-refined tannins. It ends with subtly minty and smoky accents.
Serve around 17-18°C.
